Katy Summer Tailgate

This brand new event merged with last year’s Taste of Katy. The fun occupied the streets of historic Katy. It included a Fun Zone, vendor booths, a row of restaurants with plenty to satisfy any craving, and a street dance to the fabulous tunes of the Texas Twisters. Entry fee to this event was either a backpack or bag of school supplies. All donations, both school supplies and monetary, benefited the YMCA’s Operation Backpack program, which helps to ensure that many of our local Katy kids start school with all of the essentials to kick off a successful year!

Autism Rescue Angels

Autism Rescue Angels, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide financial assistance to autism families in our local community, held their first dinner event in Katy on Aug. 13 . Held at the golf club at Cinco Ranch, 110 guests enjoyed dinner and conversation about how Autism Rescue Angels is working hard to help families care for their loved ones with autism. Holly Smith, mother of a son with autism and one of the first recipients of assistance from the nonprofit, shared her son’s story and how the nonprofit has greatly helped her family.

The evening raised over $15,000 and community awareness as many of those in attendance were representing Katy as elected officials, local teachers, business owners, church representatives and local autism families. Board members in attendance were founder Dr. Lisa Graham-Garza, co-founders Elaine and Jim Turner, Jenny Thompson and Martha Rivera.
