Katy Students Take Awards at Houston World Series Dog Show Art Competition

All Competitors’ Artwork Will Be On Display At Katy ISD Education Support Complex Starting Aug. 28

A total of 117 Katy ISD students from 17 campuses participated in the Houston World Series Dog Show Art Competition held at NRG Center. The Dr. Mari Jon Filla Student Art Exhibit & Contest has been an iconic part of the dog show since the early 1980s. It recognizes student involvement in honoring man’s best friend, the dog. Since the art show’s inception, it has grown to nearly 1,000 entries. This year, several Katy ISD students won in the top honor categories, which include:

 

Best of Show

  1. Jenna Seo, 10th-grader at Taylor High School. Art teacher: Nancy Viola

 

Best in Grade Awards

  1. Kalina Gotowala, second-grader at Winborn Elementary. Art teacher: Clinton Orsak
  2. Shai Guerrero, sixth-grader at Morton Ranch Junior High. Art teacher: Malvina Castillo
  3. Yunju Lee, eighth-grader at Tays Junior High. Art teacher: Kendra Vreeland

Top award winners and their art teachers were invited to participate in a special awards ceremony. All Katy ISD artwork will be on display at the Katy ISD Education Support Complex, 6301 S. Stadium Lane, from Aug. 28-Oct. 13, during regular business hours.l
