Long-time Katy resident, business owner and community leader, Stan C. Stanley, passed away March 29 at the age of 74 after a sudden illness. He is survived by his wife Patsy, three children and four grandchildren.

Ann Hodge, president of the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, knew Stanley for 16 years. “This is a man who literally touched all facets of this community. He broke the mold,” she is quoted as saying. He received the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 2015. He was also a founding member of the Katy Area Economic Development Council.

Among his many efforts, Stanley was especially proud of his community service for Katy ISD and the Boy Scouts of America.

On April 3, more than 1,000 family, friends, staff and community members attended a memorial service at Stan C. Stanley Elementary School, the Katy school named after him in 2009. He was a mentor for Katy ISD programs and Junior Achievement, Walk a Mile in My Shoes and others. Stanley also served on various committees, including Leadership Katy and Partners in Education. In 2006, the Texas State Board of Education honored him with a Heroes for Children award.

As a youth, Stanley became involved in Boy Scouts, earning the Eagle Scout rank in 1958 and the Virgil Honor – the organization’s highest honor – in 1959. Throughout his life, Stanley continued to make a difference in the lives of young Scouts. He also served the Boy Scouts of America in numerous ways.

Stanley’s widow, Patsy, is continuing to keep the business, Stanley Signature Products, Inc., open in Stan’s memory with their “adopted” son, Karl Falk, at the helm. The company is an exterior, electronic and graphic signage firm in Katy.

“Street Pantries” create a secure and convenient way for online purchases, groceries, dry cleaning and other items to be delivered directly to the home.

The Katy master-planned community of Cane Island, fresh off its grand opening and Amenity Village introduction, has opened an exclusive gated section of luxury custom homesites featuring Houston’s first “Street Pantries” to create a secure and convenient way for online purchases, groceries, dry cleaning and other items to be delivered directly to the home.

The Estates at Cane Island features 22 half-acre homesites with impressive lakefront views or lush, forested settings complete with hundreds of mature trees that will change accent color over the course of the night via a custom tree lighting program. Streets in the new section also will be lined with illuminated, mature trees.

Each custom home in Cane Island will be the first in Houston built with a garage-attached, air-conditioned Street Pantry, ideal for deliveries when a resident is away. The spaces will be equipped with shelving, a rod for dry cleaning deliveries and electrical outlet for an optional, powered ice chest for storing groceries for an extended time.

As an added convenience, the homeowner will receive a text message when a delivery is made according to the passcode assigned to each service. Or, a resident can choose to have a delivery sent to the Cane Island Welcome Center rather than directly to their home. In these cases, a Cane Island host can be granted a passcode to place the item in the resident’s private Street Pantry. User codes can be changed, deleted or programmed to work during a specified time range when a delivery is expected.

Each Street Pantry will offer approximately 115 cubic feet of storage accessible by a secure, side door inside each garage, thereby eliminating the need for the homeowner to go outside the house to enter the space.

Cane Island has also expanded its model home collection to 14 fully furnished showcases with the opening of two new models by Shea Homes, and a third by David Weekley Homes.

Priced from the $430’s, Shea Homes offers several three, four and five-bedroom plans from 2,975 – 4,672 square feet featuring great rooms ideal for entertaining, gourmet kitchens, impressive master suites and spacious secondary bedrooms.

Shea’s first Cane Island model is a 1.5-story, four-bedroom, 4.5-bath French Country home featuring an open-concept gourmet kitchen/great room, formal dining, courtyard, study, upstairs movie theater and three-car garage. Its second model is a two-story, five-bedroom, 4.5-bath Spanish Territorial-styled villa with an inspiring entry foyer, great room and chef-style kitchen, first-floor master suite, courtyard and upstairs game room.

David Weekley’s third Cane Island model is a single-story, three-bedroom home on a 50-foot homesite with an open-concept kitchen, dining and family rooms, owner’s retreat and study. Several other plans on 50-foot Cane Island homesites are available from the $270’s ranging from 1,831 – 2,760 square feet.

Cane Island is west Houston’s newest master-planned community featuring new luxury homes from the $200’s to the millions. The community also features an all-new Amenity Village featuring a family pool with children’s water playground, lap pool, two-story fitness center, yoga studio, a glass-walled conservatory for community events and poolside cafe.
