VIONIC SUPPORTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOOTWEAR

Finally, A Good For Feet Flip Flop, Hugging Arches For Key Support!

This year Vionic introduces its first healthy podiatrist-designed flip flop under $50, the Beach. The patent-pending Beach flip flop has a lightweight injection molded EVA footbed offering the same cushioning and comfort as athletic shoes. It is built for walking, infused with Vionic’s supportive technology including a contoured arch and heel seat to promote natural alignment from the feet up.

Dr. Jackie Sutera warns of the dangers of wearing traditional flat flip flops. “Not all flip flops are created equally,” says Dr. Sutera, a Vionic Innovation Lab expert and APMA spokesperson. She shares the health problems associated with traditional flat flip flops and how to mitigate the risks.

Why are traditional flip flops so bad?

“You have to over-grip when you’re wearing these shoes, because there’s no backstrap,” says Dr. Sutera. “There are a myriad of issues that can arise from this including stress fractures, plantar fasciitis (heel pain), bunions and hammer toes.”

What can you do to mitigate the risks?

“Stay away from the really thin flip flops that many of us have in every color because they’re inexpensive and cute.” Instead, favor the styles “with a thicker sole, heavier straps and a bit of arch support.”

Dr. Sutera urges us to remember that traditional flip flops should be worn in moderation. “They’re really made for at the beach and poolside,” she says, not a long day of exploring or errand-running.

What should you look for to find a healthier and safer flip flop?

Dr. Sutera recommends wearing a flip-flop with a contoured sole such as those from Vionic shoes which are podiatrist-designed for walking and proven to prevent and relieve pain in feet, ankles, knees and backs.

Each Flip Flop is $39.95 (available in additional colors and also for men). Vionic also offers other styles of supportive footwear
such as heels, wedges, active and more.
