MISS FULSHEAR 2016 BEAUTY PAGEANT WINNERS CHOSEN

Recently 19 local beauties competed for titles in five age categories in the 2016 Miss Fulshear Pageant in front of an audience of 200 on April 2 at the Irene Stern Community Center in Fulshear. The pageant started in 2009 as part of the Fulshear Freedom Fest for the Fourth of July. In 2014, Nicole Saenz, now the event director, was approached by the city to make the event an actual beauty pageant.

The pageant’s age categories are Little Miss Fulshear (ages 3-6), Young Miss Fulshear (ages 7-12), Teen Miss Fulshear (ages13-17), Miss Fulshear (ages 18-25) and Mrs. Fulshear ages (26 and up). Contestants are scored in Beauty, Photogenic and Talent, and contestants age 18 and older must also complete an onstage interview. Cobblestone Cottage owner Casi Newbill won the Mrs. Fulshear crown.

This free event is open to all Fulshear residents age 3 or older. There is no prerequisite to qualifying prior to the event. After registration, the girls participate in a training class each week for a full month for two hours a week. The 2016 winners will fulfill several tasks through their year of reign, which commenced with the Keep Fulshear Beautiful event. The winners will also participate in the Scarecrow Festival, Fulshear Freedom Fest, the Parade of Lights Christmas event, St. Patrick’s event and more.

Saenz has been participating in beauty pageants since she was 9 years old and has held over 80 titles during her pageant career, including Teen Miss California and most recently California’s Mrs. Inland Empire 2008. She was awarded volunteer of the year for 2012 from the City of Fulshear and has been a city volunteer since 2009.
