MD ANDERSON CELEBRATES KATY SURVIVORS AT SURVIVORSHIP NIGHT

On June 11, MD Anderson hosted the inaugural Survivorship Night event at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch. The center was aglow in purple and green lighting during a concert to honor local cancer survivors, patients and caregivers. Guests enjoyed live music, glow necklaces, complimentary souvenir photos and free educational materials from MD Anderson staff who were on-site to visit with attendees and join the celebration. Hundreds of visitors wrote messages of inspiration and remembrance on the Strike Through Cancer Wall.

WORKING SMOKE ALARMS AND AN ATTENTIVE NEIGHBOR SAVE A LIFE

On June 20 around 5:30 p.m. Harris County ESD 48 Fire Department Engine 3 responded to a call for flames coming from the second floor of a home in Williamsburg Parish. The family was not home, but an alert neighbor heard their smoke alarms going off. Upon further investigation, they saw smoke and flames through a top floor window and called 911. The first units were on scene within five minutes and were able to make a quick attack and contain the fire to the room of origin.
